Hi, Ed here:
December 24th seems like a good time to talk about downtime. It's right about now on the calendar where most businesses take a break. Especially the week between Christmas and New Year's. When I had my company we always closed for the week. That meant everyone, not just a few people, could step away and be with family or spend a few days any way they wanted. I also made it a practice to give everyone four weeks of vacation. Everyone.

I wish everyone could and would shut down. I know it is not possible in the world we live in today but time off is essential to health and well-being. If you are a business owner or leader or have influence over people's schedules, please make sure you give your people time to reflect, breathe, and regroup.
My request:
I'd like to know how you fit downtime into your schedule. Please share any tips.
